Driver in fatal accident held

JEDDAH: An Indian driver was arrested on Monday while attempting to flee from the country after causing a fatal accident in the Eastern Province last year, a local newspaper reported on Tuesday. A Saudi was killed and three others injured. The man went to the Deportation Department in Jeddah claiming his name was Rizwan Fadl, an overstayer who had come to the country as a pilgrim. But the official discovered he was a wanted man after checking his fingerprints. It also emerged that his real name was Muhammad Imran. Eastern Province police are expected to take the man into custody shortly to carry out further investigations and eventually charge him with manslaughter.

Man in hoax calls arrested

ABHA: Police arrested a man who caused major alarm after falsely claiming a series of bombs was about to explode at several shopping complexes in the southern province of Asir on Saturday, Al-Jazirah daily reported on Tuesday. The man called police and told them he had seen a car carrying large quantities of explosives in the streets of Mahayel Asir. A large number of officers were immediately sent to investigate but nothing was found, a police spokesman of Asir province said. All officers manning entry points into the city were also alerted and patrol cars were sent to check every part of the town but no suspicious vehicle was found. Finally, police realized the whole thing had been a hoax.
