RIYADH: An auto mechanic killed two pedestrians Monday night when his car suddenly overran the pavement when he accelerated the vehicle for a test drive.

The incident took place in the Shifa industrial area when a Turkish mechanic, who did not have a driving license, went for a test run in a Nissan Patrol vehicle on completion of the needed repairs.

Both the victims were from Uttar Pradesh in India. Nafees Ahmed, 38, of Allahabad died on the spot, while Kismat Ali, 35, of Jaisingapur died 15 hours later on admission to the Al-Eman Hospital.

Both were working as welders in a factory in the Shifa district.

According to Babu who lives in the locality, the incident took place following Isha prayers around 7:20 p.m.

“Three people including the two victims were having a conversation when the ill-fated vehicle ran into the group,” he said.

The mechanic fled the scene following the accident.
