JEDDAH: Saudi Ambassador to Japan Abdul Aziz Turkistani has called on Saudi businessmen, investors and economists to actively participate in the Japan-Arab Economic Forum, which opens in Tokyo on Dec. 6.
“The Japanese government has given utmost importance to this event as it offers a good opportunity to exchange views and increase trade relations,” Turkistani said.
A committee has been formed, comprising members of the Council of Arab ambassadors and heads of diplomatic corps. in Japan under the chairmanship of Turkistani, to prepare for the four-day conference.
The forum will focus on strengthening prospects of expanding Arab-Japanese commercial and economic cooperation and exploring investment opportunities in both sides.
In addition to Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, a number of Arab economic and oil ministers as well as businessmen will attend the conference. Japan’s ministers for foreign affairs, economy, trade and industry will also be present.
“The purpose of the establishment of the Japan-Arab Economic Forum is to strengthen mutual economic relations between Japan and Arab countries through cooperation in a wide range of fields such as trade, investment, energy, technology and human resources development,” organizers said.
A number of workshops will take place, covering sectors such as investment financing, water, renewable energy, environment, basic industries and tourism. They will include country-specific presentations from the Arab delegation. The Japanese will introduce a framework for business acceleration.
The Japanese will also give presentations on business opportunities utilizing Japan’s state-of-art technology. This event will cover scientific research and technology, agriculture, content industry, information technology, plant & engineering businesses, small and medium enterprises, intellectual property rights and enforcement of anti-counterfeit regulations.
“A meeting hall will be available for participants who wish to hold one-to-one business meetings with related Japanese entities,” organizers said.
A meeting desk will be provided for every single Arab company who wishes to discuss business with Japanese participants in the forum.
