AL-JOUF: A Saudi mother in her 20s has filed an official complaint with Al-Qurayat police demanding an investigation into the death of her 15-month-old child who she alleges was killed by her sister’s maid.
The Health Affairs in Al-Jouf has refused to release documents detailing how the child died, but told the mother verbally that the child died naturally.
The mother alleges the maid threatened to harm her baby if she did not buy her a calling card and that she did not take her threats seriously. She added that she left the child with her sister when she recently went to Riyadh for medical treatment and that on her return on Wednesday she was told that her baby had died.
Abdullah Al-Faleh, official spokesman for the Health Affairs in Al-Jouf, said reports pertaining to deaths are kept private and only released once approved by the authorities.
Col. Daman Al-Daran, official spokesman for Al-Jouf police, said investigations were ongoing and that he would reveal further details on completion.
The baby’s body was handed over to the woman’s ex-husband who gave up the right to pursue the case and approved the child’s burial. The mother filed the police complaint demanding to know the cause of the infant’s death.
