MAKKAH: Saudi scouts will be equipped with GPS software to guide pilgrims during the Haj, said Abdullah Al-Fahd, vice president of the Saudi Arabian Scouts Society.

“We will experiment with the system and hope it will simplify the various tasks undertaken by scouts. The system will be studied and applied extensively in coming years. We will also be cooperating with the Presidency of Youth Affairs and other related departments in this matter,” said Al-Fahd.

The vice president was speaking during a visit to the headquarters of the Scout Center of Youth Affairs in Mina on Monday where he was given a demonstration of how GPS would be used at Haj.

More than 3,000 scouts from different parts of the Kingdom are expected to participate in this year’s Haj; five scout camps have been set up in Azizia, Mina, Arafat and Makkah.
