Community groups urged to join aid effort

JEDDAH: Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmad, general secretary of All India Sunni Jamiathul Ulema, called on community organizations to join hands to provide relief to those affected by the floods that devastated the city last week.

While commending the services of different Kerala community groups to the victims, he rallied the Jeddah S.Y.S. committee to make a coordinated plan to help in the relief efforts.

“The scenes at the flood-affected areas in Jeddah are heart-rending and immediate aid should be given to affected people,” he said, while lauding Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah’s order to pay SR1 million to the family of each person who died in the flood.

Sheikh Aboobacker met community members after performing Haj. Kerala State S.Y.S. leaders Ponmala Abdul Qader Musliyar, Perode Abdurahiman Saqafi and others accompanied him during a visit to the flood-ravaged areas of Jeddah.
