JEDDAH: Al-Ittihad captain and former national player Muhammad Nur faces disciplinary action from the Saudi Football Association for his unsportsmanlike behavior during the Saudi Professional League match against Al-Ittifaq on Tuesday, which won Ittifaq 2-1.
The SFA Disciplinary Committee will discuss on Saturday the report of the match referee Abdul Rahman Al-Amri to determine the gravity of the offense and corresponding punishment. Nur may be suspended for a number of matches.
He was shown the red card for taunting the linesman in the waning minutes of the match.
Earlier in the match, he was booked for pushing an opposing player and colliding with Ittifaq defender Ibrahim Al-Mufarrej, who injured the upper side of his right eye as a result.
Sources told Arab News that Nur was upset after he suspected his club of having had a hand in him not being included on the shortlist for the Best Player in Asia award.
After the match against Shabab, which ended 2-1 in favor of Shabab, Nur had accused the Ittihad management of not supporting him to win the award.
Nur had an excellent performance during the match against Ittifaq but he could not control his emotion when he charged at the linesman who then notified the match referee about his action for which he earned a second yellow and red card.
