RIYADH: A gang of thieves has been arrested by Riyadh police for stealing SR1.3 million from the accountant of a local company.
Police said the thieves rammed the man’s car from behind and when the victim came out to look at the damage, one of the men showed him a gun and took the cash.
The 42-year-old accountant, an Arab expatriate, informed police at the Al-Aziziya police station who then launched a massive investigation. Suspicion fell on six security guards at the man’s company who had not turned up for work following the incident.
It was also learned that the men were posing as Saudis to gain employment as security guards.
They were subsequently arrested and one of them confessed to illegally entering the Kingdom and gaining employment as a security guard using a stolen Saudi identity card.
The man also said that two other guards convinced him two days before to join them in the robbery. One of the guards had stolen a red jeep in Al-Kharj to use in the theft.
Following the robbery, the men fled to the house of another gang member. The accountant was able to identify one of the men.
