YANGON: A 38-year-old political activist who participated in the “Saffron Revolution” of 2007 has died in a Myanmar jail where she was serving a three-year sentence with hard labor, government sources confirmed Friday.

Tin Tin died in Insein Prison on Wednesday from a burst aneurism, security sources confirmed. She was cremated Friday, family members said.

Tin Tin was arrested in September 2007 with 14 other political activists for involvement in the Saffron Revolution when thousands of Buddhist monks took to the streets of Yangon to protest military rule and the country’s deteriorating economic conditions.

She was sentenced to three years and three months in jail with hard labor.
