JEDDAH: The Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar at the Red Sea Mall is unique with women selling their modernized tribal accessories mixed with the latest fashion.
Amal Omar Rady, who designs jewelry, says that designing and fashion has been her childhood dream and that the bazaar helped turn it into a reality as well as help encourage her children to start their own independent businesses when they grow up.
Fashion designer Wajdan Alshryufi uses antique garments and accessories to design modern dresses.
Bazaar coordinator Afaf Abdullah describes the women selling in the bazaar as one big happy family.
“We have a very friendly environment and everyone is helping out each other,” she said.
Rajaa Mohammed Kota sells handmade fashion accessories and has 18 years of experience. “The designs are world class, and the material used is imported from Turkey, Italy and Lebanon.
“The bazaar has given these women the chance to display and earn from their talents,” says Ayed Al-Malky who has a handcrafted accessories kiosk at the bazaar.
Rania F.J. Khogeer employs productive families from as far as Morocco and Jordan for the making of her designs.
Jewelry designer Sabah Magolah travels regularly to the US to bring back high quality gemstones for her store in the bazaar.
Abaya designer Nadia Ashi says she first started out designing at home and selling only in Ramadan bazaars, but is selling for the first time in Khan Al-Khalili.
Somaya Saleh, who is working and studying, says that selling at the bazaar has helped build her personality.
