Arab News Basketball Tourney takes off tomorrow

JEDDAH: Eight teams of different nationalities will take part in the Arriyadiyah Arab News Basketball Tournament, which opens at Faisal Sports Park in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Obaid Madani, director general of Jeddah United, the main organizer of the event, said all preparations have been completed for the tournament.

“We are ready to receive the fans of different participating teams including Saudis and expatriates,” Madani told Arab News.

Arab News Editor in Chief Khaled Almaeena will be the guest of honor at the opening ceremony.

He said the tournament is aimed at encouraging youths to take part in different sports activities, promoting basketball and creating a better living atmosphere for youths.

“It will also help strengthen friendship between Saudis and expatriates,” he said. He said sports is the best way to fight diabetes and obesity among youths. He thanked Arab News for sponsoring the event. Faisal Sports Park was established by Muhammad Zahid.

The Park team will meet the Philippine team in the opening match that begins at 6.35 pm. On the same day the Eagle team will play with the Park’s second team.
