MADINAH: A seminar held at Taiba University has urged authorities to upgrade the curriculum for girls’ higher education in tune with job market requirements in the Kingdom.
“We should also apply international quality standards and specifications to improve higher education for girls,” said the seminar, which was opened by Madinah Gov. Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed on Monday.
A databank of jobs available in public and private sectors for women should also be created, the seminar said, adding that such databank should be made available to university students.
“A study on job opportunities for women should also be conducted for reducing unemployment among them,” it said.
Women teaching staff should be given greater role in the decision-making process in academic and administrative matters of universities. The seminar, which discussed 27 research papers and attended by experts from foreign countries, stressed the need for using modern information technology and teaching methodology at Saudi universities. “Girls should be encouraged to conduct scientific researches from the first years of university education,” said one resolution.
The seminar also called for organizing a national conference on higher education of girls every two years by Saudi universities. It also called for improving infrastructure facilities for the higher education of girls in the Kingdom.
Child psychology and family life in Islam should be included among the class textbooks for girls.
Intellectual, cultural, social and recreational co-curricular programs should also be conducted for them, the seminar said.
