JEDDAH: Prince Mohammed Al-Faisal has instituted an award for the best research paper on Islamic economics. The competition is open to all Saudi and resident students. The prize money is SR100,000 and will be awarded every year.

Announcing the award at a meeting held at the Prince Sultan College for Tourism and Business-Jeddah, which will supervise the research studies, Prince Amr Mohammed Al-Faisal said all entries should reach the organizers by Jumada Al-Thani, which corresponds to June 29.

The prizewinner will be announced by the end of the year and honored at a ceremony.

“All research papers should be based on a scientific frame work, deal with various economic problems and offer solutions on the basis of Shariah,” the prince said, adding that the award is aimed to help solve the economic problems facing the Kingdom in particular and the region and the world in general.

“The effort through the institution of the award is to encourage the younger generation to conduct research studies on subjects vital to the Kingdom.”

He stressed Prince Mohammed Al-Faisal’s principle of justice and explained its importance and application in achieving best results in the interest of the economy and stimulate its Islamic links.

Shakeel A. Habib, vice dean of the college, a private nonprofit institution that belongs to King Faisal Foundation, said the college offers diploma and bachelor degrees in tourism, hospitality and business sciences under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education.

The first two years of the four-year course are of a general nature and the last two years are meant for specialization. Each year a new batch of 150 students is enrolled. The college, established more than two years ago, is affiliated to Al-Faisal University.

“Over the years, we have strived to provide a new interdisciplinary field of study designed to cope with the expanding labor demand. We have achieved this through a dynamic approach to theoretical and applied methods,” Habib said. “Our programs are accurately tailored in accordance with the specifications required for the labor market,” he said, adding that the college courses also include studies in business administration, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, accounting, accounting information system, management information system, as well as tourism management, event management, eco and adventure management, and hospitality management.

“College curriculums are internationally certified and designed to meet the needs of the private sector,” he added.
