JEDDAH: Friends of Ahmad Yahya Qirat, a 13-year-old boy who has been missing since the Nov. 25 flash floods in Jeddah, have announced a reward of SR100,000 for anyone providing information leading to the child, alive or dead.

The friends have circulated SMS messages announcing the reward and asking people to look for him. They have placed four photographs of him in the text messages.

The tragedy of Qirat began the day of the tragedy of floods and rains in Jeddah that left six members of his family dead. The family, consisting of the father, the mother, two sisters, a brother and a housemaid perished in the floods and their bodies were found. They were on their way to Makkah to drop off the mother, Sanaa Abu Al-Ghaith, when they were drowned in the floods.

The mother, a supervisor in the section of Islamic studies at the Ministry of Education, was to join a Haj campaign.

While the bodies of the six members of the family were found, the fate of the young boy remained a mystery. He was not found dead or alive. The friends asked all recipients of the messages to circulate the messages among friends and relatives so as to widen the search for the missing boy.

They placed the following mobile phone numbers for contacts: 059-243-7639, 055-577-1529, 059-820-7120, 059-100-2012, 050-680-8006. They also provided the following e-mail address: [email protected]. The friends were hopeful that Qirat would be found during the coming few days when all the standing water areas made by the floods are dried up.
