MAKKAH: The Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) will organize an investment forum to attract foreign investments, highlight the investment opportunities available in the holy city and deal with the hurdles and difficulties facing the investment environment.
The chamber will also organize the first Islamic conference on Islamic economy, Islamic banking and the ethics of Islamic transactions, said MCCI chief Talal Abdul Wahab Mirza. He was talking before a function held by the chamber Wednesday evening at the Marbia Hall to honor the incumbent and former chairmen and members of the board of directors of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI). Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Zainal Alireza attended the function along with 300 businessmen and dignitaries.
Mirza did not reveal when the investment forum and the Islamic economy conference would be held. “The investment forum will be an annual event in which local and foreign investors and experts will participate,” he added.
The chairman said the plan also embodies the conducting of a study to make Makkah an Islamic commercial center making use of the millions of people who come to the city for Haj or Umrah throughout the year.
Addressing the function, JCCI’s Chairman Saleh Kamel said a coordination bureau would be established among the chambers of commerce in Jeddah, Makkah and Taif to put into effect the “Made in Makkah” initiative that was launched by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal.
