OIC to hold 8 km race in March

JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will hold an 8 km race, in commemoration to the organization’s 40th anniversary, which will take off at Jeddah Corniche on March 16 at 3.40 p.m.

The all-male OIC race will start near Al-Faras roundabout and it will end near Al-Nuras roundabout in southern part of Jeddah’s Corniche.

“We are expecting over 800 runners for the main race and about 3,000 to 4,000 from 18 years and above in a race over a shorter distance. About 30 to 35 special needs participants will also join the event” Abdul Razaq Saa’ad head of the organizing committee said.

The Presidency for Youth Welfare will support the OIC in organizing this event and have set aside a budget of SR 250,000. The OIC will contribute SR 150,000 as their share to host the race.

“Winners in different sections will be awarded with the overall winner getting a car as the first prize.” Mahjoob Saieed, head of the committee overseeing the race said.

Special prizes for special needs participants have been instituted for those who complete the race.
