MAKKAH: Al-Bir Welfare Society is currently building a SR6 million, 16-unit shelter for orphans in Makkah’s Al-Nuzha district, Tariq bin Saleh Muhammad Jamal, the group’s chairman, announced on Wednesday.
“Under the tenets of Islam, which call for social solidarity, we are responsible to provide accommodation for the orphans and enable them to lead a good life compensating them for the loss of their parents,” the society’s chairman said.
Jamal pointed out that the society has 12 housing complexes in various parts of Makkah in addition to six welfare houses accommodating more than 200 families.
“We also have two shelter homes for old men and women,” he added.
The organization also has various programs for the needy, regardless of whether or not they are orphans, including a back-to-school program, a program to provide new clothes during Eid and in the wintertime, as well as feeding pilgrims during Ramadan.
