JEDDAH: Ahmad Yahya Qirat has been missing since the Nov. 25 flash floods, but the family of the missing 13-year-old still hopes against the odds that the boy is alive somewhere.

Now, an award of SR100,000 for any information that leads to the boy, alive or dead, has been doubled thanks to the charity of local businessmen.

Naif Suwaed, Ahmad’s brother in law, said that his family continues to search for the missing boy believing that he might be alive somewhere. His wife, Ahmad’s sister, had offered the reward for finding her little brother.

“He might have lost his memory because of the tragedy or suffered from severe psychological problem,” he said. He also speculated that the boy could be staying with family out in the country with no access to media. The child went out on Nov. 25, on the day of the flash floods, to see his mother off for Haj.

Ahmad, a native Jeddawi, was in his first year of middle school.

Ahmad’s sister, Naif Suwaed wife, specified a large amount of money as financial reward for any information that leads to him or knowing his fate. The money will be paid from the royal grant given to the family for losing seven members.

Despite two months since the boy’s disappearance on a day that took many lives, Naif expressed hope that the boy’s fate would come to light. “The mystery behind his disappearance will be revealed one day,” he said.
