JEDDAH: Organizers have confirmed more high-level participation in the upcoming Gulf Environment Forum (GEF) in Jeddah next month.
Oman’s Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs Hamood bin Faisal Al-Busaidi and UAE Minister of Environment and Water Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad will be among the speakers at the forum from March 7-9, BME Global said in a press statement on Tuesday.
The shift toward a sustainable future for the Gulf region is gathering momentum with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Al-Naimi stating that the Kingdom aims to make solar energy a major contributor to energy supply in the next five to 10 years.
The GEF, which has received the consent of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah as well as the support of Crown Prince Sultan and Prince Turki bin Nasser, head of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment, will provide a crucial forum to discuss the opportunities and key issues this market is facing.
Other high-level speakers include Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, deputy minister for petroleum affairs at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Prince Saud bin Thunayan, chairman of SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu; Khalid Al-Falih, president and CEO of Saudi Aramco; and Abdul Kareem Abu Al-Nasr, CEO of the National Commercial Bank.
The conference will take place over three days, with panel discussions and interactive sessions on a wide range of environmental issues. Topics include: Oil and Renewable Energy — Integration Rather than Competition; The Sustainable Management of Water; and Sanitation and Technologies for Environmental Protection.
