MAKKAH: The Tawafa Establishment for Pilgrims from Turkey, Europe and America has began paying emoluments to its male and female pilgrim guides (Mutawwifs) from the proceeds of last year’s Haj, said Abdullah bin Omar Alauddin, chairman of the establishment’s board of directors.

“We started early this week to give out the first batch of the returns from last year’s Haj to the 1,363 male and female Mutawwifs working for us,” he told Arab News. He said entitlements have been directly deposited in Mutawwifs’ bank accounts. “This is for their convenience and is meant to make them comfortable,” he added.

“With regards to those Mutawwifs who do not have bank accounts, we’ve issued them with checks and got a local bank to set up a branch at the Tawafa Establishment’s headquarters to cash them,” he said.

“The establishment is working morning and evening shifts to ensure the Mutawwifs receive their dues,” he said, asking all those who worked for the establishment during last year’s Haj season to contact the establishment to receive their entitlements.

Alauddin urged Mutawwifs who do not have bank accounts to open accounts to make it easier for the establishment to deposit their money. He said the establishment would help Mutawwifs, especially those who are old, with opening bank accounts.
