DUBAI: The Indian Media Forum (IMF), a grouping of mediapersons from India working in the UAE, has donated thousands of dirhams worth of food, medicine and clothing for children for the earthquake victims of Haiti.

The IMF donation was handed over to the Dubai Red Crescent Society (DRC) office at Rashidiya on Wednesday. The function was attended by DRC official Rashed Al-Junaibi, IMF President E.M. Ashraf, Vice President Albert Alex, other IMF office-bearers and representatives of the sponsors of some of the donated medicines, food and clothes.

Al-Junaibi, who received the donation and shipment on behalf of Mohammed Abdulla Al-Zarouni, Red Crescent manager in Dubai, appreciated the gesture of the UAE-based mediamen.

DRC had already dispatched two teams of volunteers to Haiti who are even now stationed around 220 kms away from the nearest airport of Port-Au Prince and overseeing aid work.

The first planeload of relief carrying men, machinery and humanitarian help from the DRC was dispatched immediately soon after the news of the devastation. A second planeload was sent with 100 tons of essential items, Al-Junaibi said.

DRC will send a third shipment of supplies that will carry the IMF donations, he said. "We are receiving many donations for the Haitian people, so we may dispatch another planeload to that country," he added.

Ashraf said that the donors to the Haitian cause though IMF included Fine Fair garment company that donated AED44,000 worth of children's clothes, Dr. Azad Moopan's Group, Dr. Sirajuddeen Medical Center and Al Gharafa Medical Center, Ajman, that donated emergency medicines.
