JEDDAH: An Egyptian man who stabbed to death two of his friends in Jeddah’s Al-Safa district on Tuesday said he carried out the bloody attacks after becoming fed up with them continuously making fun of him.
The killer, known as Ayman, stabbed his first victim inside an apartment at Fajr time while he slept. Ayman then waited over five hours until around 11 a.m. for the second victim to come to the apartment in order to stab him. He, however, escaped and so Ayman chased him on to the street where he repeatedly stabbed him and then sat on a curb waiting for the police.
The victims and their killer worked in the Al-Safa district’s fruit wholesale market for over five years. Confessing to the murders, Ayman said he became weary of his two friends making fun of him and controlling him.
He told police that he had just returned from Egypt 15 days before the crime. “My two friends treated me like a child, as if I was their son. They would not hesitate to mock me and insult me in front of people. They used to humiliate me in front of my sponsor and even criticized my work,” he said.
Ayman said his first victim was planning to leave for Egypt after 15 days and told him how he had an idea of how to make some extra cash. He showed Ayman some blank receipts that had been sealed and authenticated with a stamp. The receipts did not list items that had been sold, something that made him suspicious. He was then told to give the receipts to certain customers.
The victim sold one of the receipts to an Asian friend for SR500 and the day before his murder sold another to a customer. He also instructed Ayman to sell some of the bills when he is in Egypt and transfer the money to his account. However, when Ayman inquired what the business was, the victim cursed and insulted him.
Angry and humiliated, Ayman planned the murder and attacked the first man with a kitchen knife when he was asleep. He then waited several hours for the second victim to come to the apartment.
