RIYADH: Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company, awarded 1 million Egyptian pounds to Egypt’s national football team. This gesture was in support of the team winning the 2010 African Nations Cup (27th) for 3 consecutive times, and 7th time since its inception. Egypt won by 1-0 against Ghana in the final match on Sunday in Angola.
Alwaleed’s latest initiative is an extension of his support to sports in general and the importance of encouraging clubs and federations to attract male and female members to improve their skills and participate constructively.
In 2008, Prince Alwaleed awarded EGP1 million to Egypt’s national team. This gesture was in support of the team reaching the finals for the 26th African Nations Cup after winning their match against Cote d’Ivoire 4-1.
