Quarrel on board delays flight
ABHA: The quarrel between a passenger and a flight attendant resulted in delaying Saudi Arabian Airlines Flight 1946 Thursday from the southern city of Abha to King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh. Arab News learned from informed sources the quarrel started when the passenger insisted that his friend should be seated beside him. But the flight attendant told the passenger he should sit in the seat designated on the boarding pass. The passenger argued with the flight attendant for so long the plane’s takeoff was delayed.
Expat worker found dead
YANBU: A Filipino was found dead in his apartment in Yanbu early Thursday, a police spokesman here announced on Thursday. The spokesman, who has not so far suspected any foul play, said the police received information from his colleagues that man entered his room Wednesday evening and did not come out for work on Thursday. “When the police entered his room, they found him dead in his bed,” he said. The spokesman, who did not identify the dead man, said they believed the cause of death to be natural.
Students damage minister’s vehicle
RIYADH: Students of Abawa Secondary School east of Riyadh on Wednesday damaged the car of Deputy Education Minister Khaled Al-Sabti, which was parked in front the school, press reports said Thursday. The students removed the official emblem from the car while the minister was inspecting school. Al-Sabti refused to comment on the incident.
‘Sorcerer’ handed 800 lashes, jail
RIYADH: The Court of Appeals endorsed on Wednesday the verdict of the Riyadh General Court that sentenced an Arab man accused of sorcery to eight years in prison and 800 lashes. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice had earlier arrested the black magician after receiving tips from the public about his illegal activities that go against the teachings of Islam.
Al-Madhi heads Cultural Channel
RIYADH: Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Madhi, deputy director of Channel One of Saudi Arabian Television, was appointed on Wednesday to be supervisor of the new Cultural Channel. An experienced and professional media person, Al-Madhi has won several Arab awards.
Two charged with house intrusion
YANBU: Authorities here arrested on Thursday a young Saudi man who tried with an accomplice to enter the house of a Sudanese family near the SAPTCO bus station. The police said one of the two men was caught and the other suspect was still at large. A spokesman of the police said both the young men were believed to be drunk.
