Akram slams swashbuckling ton

JEDDAH: A fine Akram 117 off only 51 balls was the highlight of ACE Travel’s 30-run win over Otex Cricket Club in the third week matches in the Premier Division Cricket League, sponsored by Kanoo Group of Companies and organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association.

In another matches of the same division, Ghoshi’s magnificent 83 runs for Pak Young enabled them to score a comfortable 47-run win over Saudi German Hospital while Sigma Paints Osfan-XI lost to Kanoo by three wickets.

ACE Travel winning the toss and batting scored 204 for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 18 overs.

Akram, who is the main run getting machine for ACE Travel, was in terrific form and had 14 hits to the fence including half a dozen sixers. Murtaza was not out with 18 runs.

Asif 3 for 29, Usman Jani 2 for 46 were the main wicket-takers.

In reply the Otex-XI could manage 174 for 5 wickets. Usman Jani (31), Shahnawaz (28), Amjad (28), Javed (38 n.o.) impressed for Otex. Ashfaq Hussain bagged 3 for 39.

At ground No.2, Pak Young batting first totalled 190 for 3. Opener Ghoshi scored a splendid 83 and was ably supported by his partner Arshad Khan who made 32.

Skipper Shakeel and Mustafa remained unbeaten on 27 and 23 runs respectively. Ashfaq took 2 for 39.

Saudi German Hospital was all out for 143 in 16 overs. Only Mumtaz 56 put up a semblance of a fight while all the other batsmen caved in tamely.

In the third match of the day, Sigma Paints Osfan-XI batting first made 159 for 7 wickets.

Majid Bhatti made swashbuckling 46 runs off 14 balls. Jamshed (23), Rana Riaz (18 n.o.) and Riaz (18) were their main contributors. Rashid Khurshid bagged 3 for 20 and Majid Sheikh 2 for 39. Kanoo reached their target making 161 for 8 wickets in 17.5 overs. Arshad (43), Muhammad Rabi (33) and captain Majid (23) did their best.
