JEDDAH: The Saudi Post has denied there is any ongoing dispute between itself and the Indian Postal Department as mentioned in a forwarded e-mail that is currently doing the rounds.
“Recent postings on some websites about a serious disagreement between the Saudi Post and the Indian Postal Department due to a missing parcel are baseless. Our relationship with the Indian Postal Department and the postal services of other members of the International Postal Union is excellent,” said Badr Al-Saeed, director of public relations at Saudi Post.
Al-Saeed added that missing parcels, something that rarely occurs, do not lead to disputes, as there are prescribed procedures that are followed when this happens.
Commenting on Saudi Post’s projects to support e-business and e-government services, Al-Saeed said, “Public awareness of various advanced services is making people increasingly turn to e-government and e-shopping with the help of the postal service.”
Asked about the thousands of post boxes that are in bad shape in front of residential buildings across the Kingdom, Al-Saeed said there is a contractor who is responsible for the maintenance of post boxes.
He added that the public is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of having personal postal addresses and post boxes in front of their homes.
“People now realize the importance of receiving and sending their mail via their own mailboxes from their homes. Efforts are being made to improve the post box service side by side with public campaigns to enlighten people on the need to look after their post boxes,” Al-Saeed said.
Saudi Post recently obtained an international certificate of integrated standard quality (ISO 9001:2008) for its administrative, financial, technical and postal operations.
