“I want only to go home either through official deportation by the Passport Department or on a final exit visa by my sponsor. As for my financial rights, I have deputized the Sudanese Embassy to take care of that,” Dr. Yahya Mokhtar told Arab News.
Dr. Mokhtar said he came from Sudan to Saudi Arabia in June 2004 and worked for a medical company in Tameer, near Riyadh, as a resident emergency doctor.
He said he stayed in this position for two and a half years during which his first work contract terminated and was renewed.
“On completion of two years, I asked for a vacation but the company refused on the pretext that my presence at that particular time was necessary,” he said.
The doctor said though he was married, the company did not give him the housing allowance he was entitled. He was later transferred to a hospital in Yanbu.
“While there, I signed my third contract with the company with a monthly salary of SR4,000 and accommodation for the family. The term of the contract was for one year to be renewed automatically. For my very good rating, my salary was increased to SR5,000 but in July 2008, I received a letter of termination without any justification,” he said.
“Since then the company has refused to pay my end-of-service benefit of SR90,000 nor the salaries of 18 months which I stayed without getting a work permit or obtaining a final exit visa,” he said. Dr. Mokhtar said he took his case to the Labor Office which, after protracted sessions, ruled that the company pay him SR33,000 but it refused.
Dr. Mokhtar said since July 2008 he was living on donations from his friends and relatives and loans that have accumulated to a big amount.
“My condition has deteriorated to the point of not being able to take more than a meal every day. Please send me home,” he said.
