The function of these committees is to solve problems of businessmen and present people’s issues to the government in addition to preparing reports and studies for the promotion of business and industrial activities, an official of JCCI told Arab News on Saturday.
“However, officials of the two most important committees — trade and commercial committees — will be elected only after the formation of other committees because the two committees have to be elected by the chairmen of the other committees,” said Adnan Mandurah, director of administration for committees at JCCI.
“Elections to the JCCI committees are unprecedented. These committees constitute the backbone of the chambers because they establish direct links with the public and help them solve their problems,” general supervisor of elections and member of the board of directors of JCCI Ahmad Al-Marbaie said.
He added that the formation of committees was the most suitable mechanism to run the affairs of the chamber with the maximum participation of businessmen.
“The chamber’s policy of setting up committees with elected and appointed members will ensure the real participation of the highest number of people related to various areas of economic activities. While the registered members elect 12 members, six members are appointed by the JCCI to represent various areas of economic activities,” Al-Marbaie said.
If fewer than 12 members are elected to any committee, the chamber has the right to fill the vacant posts. Shortly after the elections, the chambers will declare the names of appointed members and decide the day for the first meeting of the committee on which the chairman and two deputies of each committee will be elected. The officials are elected for two years, Al-Marbaie said.
