No. 1 Kansas joins 2,000-win club

Kansas (30-2) slogged through a sloppy first half and had to withstand a Texas Tech rally in the second before pulling away to join Kentucky and North Carolina in the 2,000-win club. The Jayhawks will play Texas A&M in the tournament semifinals.
John Roberson had 14 points and eight assists for Texas Tech (17-15).
No. 22 Georgetown 91 No. 3 Syracuse 84: In New York, Chris Wright scored 27 points and the No. 22 Hoyas sailed past third-ranked Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.
Syracuse (28-4) is left to wonder whether it’s done enough to earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, but also has to worry about Arinze Onuaku. He hurt his right knee and did not return to the game, and is expected to get an MRI exam when the team returned home.
Austin Freeman added 18 points and Jason Clark 17 for the No. 8 seed Hoyas (22-9), who will play Marquette in the first semifinal Friday night.
No. 7 West Virginia 54 Cincinnati 51: In New York, Da’Sean Butler took an inbounds pass and banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give No. 7 West Virginia a victory in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.
The third-seeded Mountaineers (25-6) were the only one of the conference’s top four seeds to advance to the semifinals. They will face seventh-seeded Notre Dame on Friday night.
Cincinnati (18-15) had a chance to win it, but Dion Dixon lost the ball on the sideline with 3.1 seconds remaining to give West Virginia the last shot.
Butler finished with 15 points, while Lance Stephenson led the Bearcats with 19 points.
No. 8 New Mexico 75 Air Force 69: In Las Vegas, Darrington Hobson scored 28 points to help the No. 8 Lobos set a school record for wins in a season during the Mountain West Conference quarterfinals.
Dairese Gary added 20 points for New Mexico (29-3), which has won 15 straight. The Lobos will play San Diego State in the tournament semifinals,
It wasn’t the runaway that their fans anticipated as they celebrated New Mexico’s first top seed in a conference tournament since 1994. The Lobos led by three points with 4 1/2 minutes left.
Tom Fow scored 17 points to lead the Falcons (10-21).
No. 9 Kansas St. 83 Oklahoma St. 64: In Kansas City, Mo., Jamar Samuels scored 21 of his career-high 27 points in the first half, and the No. 9 Wildcats turned a rematch with the Cowboys into a rout.
Kansas State (25-6) had been waiting to play Oklahoma State since a home loss in January, and left no doubt while tying a school single-season record for wins.
Denis Clemente had 12 points and 10 assists, Jacob Pullen added 19 points and Samuels had 10 rebounds to send Kansas State into Friday’s semifinals against Baylor.
Oklahoma State (22-10) shot poorly and defended even worse, following up an impressive win over rival Oklahoma with a clunker.
Marquette 80 No. 10 Villanova 76: In New York, Lazar Hayward gave Marquette the lead with a 3-pointer with 1:51 left, then added the clinching free throws with 3.2 seconds to go in the Big East tournament quarterfinals.
Fifth-seeded Marquette (22-10) will face eighth-seeded Georgetown in the semifinals.
Corey Stokes had 22 points for No. 10 Villanova (24-7), which has lost five of six to see its NCAA tournament seeding plummet. Scottie Reynolds, Villanova’s first-team All-Big East selection, was only 4 of 10 from the field for 10 points.
No. 14 BYU 95  TCU 85: In Las Vegas, Jimmer Fredette set a tournament record with 45 points and No. 14 BYU broke the school’s 60-year-old mark for wins in a season in the Mountain West quarterfinals.
Fredette was 23 of 24 from the foul line for the Cougars (29-4), his 23 free throws also setting a tournament record. His point total broke former Utah star Lou Kelly’s mark of 35 points set against New Mexico in 2002.
No. 15 Tennessee 59 LSU 49: In Nashville, Tenn., Wayne Chism had 17 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 15 Vols came back from a miserable first half to advance in the Southeastern Conference tournament.
With the teams tied at 30, Cameron Tatum stretched across the lane to hit a layup with 14:28 left and launch a 16-4 run for Tennessee (24-7) that helped put it away.
The Volunteers will play Mississippi in the quarterfinals.
LSU (11-20) held Tennessee to 25.9 percent from the floor in the first half, its worst shooting performance of any half this season. Tennessee also committed 17 turnovers.
Notre Dame 50 No. 16 Pittsburgh 45: In New York, Luke Harangody came off the bench and hit three key free throws in the final 2 minutes to help Notre Dame into the Big East tournament semifinals.
Harangody and Tory Jackson each had 12 points for the Irish (23-10), who will play West Virginia on Friday night for a chance to play in the title game.
Brad Wanamaker scored 16 for Pittsburgh (24-8), knocked out in its Big East tournament opener as the No. 2 seed for the second straight year. Before that, the Panthers reached three finals in a row and seven in a span of eight seasons.
