A similar marathon will be held in the Second Industrial City of Riyadh on Friday to be followed by another race in Dammam on April 9.
The first and the second titles in Al-Ahsa race was won by the boys of Al-Ghadeer Factory, while the third prize was grabbed by Al-Hussaim & Al-Afaleq Company.
“The marathon, in fact, showed that it really brought the industrial fraternity and the city together…..the scene was awesome as a large number of workers came on the tracks to compete for titles,” said Ibrahim Al-Barrak, chief of Al-Ahsa Industrial City, after the race was concluded with a prize-giving ceremony.
An individual runner competed on a track of about 7,200 meters in Al-Ahsa Industrial City, where 41 major industrial entities are currently operating with over 2,551 workers. More than 25 industrial projects including factories at a cost of over SR1 billion are on different stages of implementation in Al-Ahsa. The race, organized under the supervision of Al-Barrak, was watched by a capacity crowd including thousands of workers from factories.
The marathon, he said, aims to bring forth awareness about the various issues plaguing society. About 90 percent of the factories and industrial entities of the Kingdom, including those operating in Riyadh, have been intimated by Modon about the series of races. The registration process for participating in the race is still under way and Modon has announced that it will register and accommodate the participants until Thursday for the Riyadh event.
The race, to be organized in a staggered schedule, will also be held in Jeddah’s First Industrial City on April 30 and Asir Industrial City on May 21. Participation in the race is open for factories with any number of employees. Modon will distribute valuable awards such as laptop computers for top winners, while there will be prizes for the top 10 winners.
The race in Al-Ahsa was organized as per the plans approved by Dr. Taufik bin Fawzan Alrabiah, Modon director general. Mohamed Al-Afaleq, vice president of Al-Ahsa Chamber of Commerce, and Abdulaziz Al-Afaleq, chairman of Al-Fath Club, were also present.
