“The environmental rehabilitation of Wadi Hanifa represents one of the many projects of the ADA under Prince Salman and Deputy Chairman Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz,” said the authority’s president, Abdullatif bin Abdullah Malik Al-Asheikh.
He added that Prince Salman had also opened six sites as part of the project, which included recreation parks and a water treatment station.
The ceremony started with a documentary about the project. It was followed by a tour of a number of sites, during which Prince Salman and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the development.
“The ADA adopted and implemented the project due to the strategic value of the valley,” Al-Asheikh said.“The great development process that took place in the capital over the past decades was accompanied by the valley’s deterioration.”
Al-Asheikh said that the ADA had adopted a number of measures to counteract the erosion of Wadi Hanifa.
“These measures included a comprehensive plan to develop the valley with the aim of helping it revert back to its natural role in water drainage and prepare it to become one of the open recreational places for people living in the city,” he said.
