The 7,500 square meter park situated west of the district has 3,700 square meters of green space and houses more than 50 palm trees, a children’s playground and a family section for picnicking.
The event was held under the patronage of Prince Turki bin Nasser, head of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME). The organization’s Vice President Mohammad Al-Shiri attended on his behalf.
He commended efforts in increasing the number of green areas in Jeddah and was given the chance to plant a tree himself.
“Prince Turki is keen that all contribute to the preservation of the environment, and this occasion gives us the confidence to give more attention to green spaces,” he said. Al-Shiri also emphasized the importance of green spaces and its positive impact on the environment and people’s health.
“The opening of this park comes as part of the activities for the 33rd Tree Week held here in Jeddah, and involves the participation of the Al-Ansar Middle School,” said the municipality’s head of parks and city beautification Bahghat Hamoh.
“There is an ongoing program to rebuild more than 40 parks and gardens in Jeddah and we have already finished work on 16.”
Hamoh remarked that Jeddah’s parks have received more attention in the last two years than in the past two decades.
“Green spaces within the city hadn’t increased much in the past two decades. Some areas remained unchanged since most of these locations lacked infrastructural capability, which the municipality is working on fixing,” Hamoh said.
