The twins, Mohammed and Amjad, accompanied by their parents were received at the hospital by Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah and Dr. Bandar Al-Knawy, chief executive officer of National Guard Health Affairs and president of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences and KAMC senior surgeons.
The hospital has already successfully separated 26 sets of twins.
On examining the conjoined infants, Al-Rabeeah, who is also the head of the multidisciplinary surgical team, told his group to conduct preliminary tests in order to ascertain the possible rate of success for the separation.
He added that a formal report would follow on completion of the tests.
The charge d’affaires at the Jordanian Embassy, Walid Kazaz, and another diplomat Majid Al-Bakheet and members of the surgical team were present for the arrival of the twins at the hospital.
Kazaz took the opportunity of thanking King Abdullah for his interest and assistance in the twins.
According to preliminary tests conducted in Amman, the twins are joined at the chest and abdomen and such organs as the liver, gall bladder and intestines are shared.
Yusuf Ahmed Teem, the father of the twins, thanked King Abdullah for his magnanimity in providing free medical aid for separation of the twins as well as for bearing the costs of transport and accommodation for the family in Riyadh until the twins have recovered following the surgery.
