“Female teachers can do a better job in teaching primary students as they can understand these children better than male teachers,” the minister said while speaking on Saudi Television’s “Good Morning” program on Wednesday.
Up until the early 80s primary schools employed women to teach boys. Currently public school classrooms are mixed at the preschool level using women teachers.
Prince Faisal did not say when women would be appointed to teach boys, but he did say his ministry hopes to introduce physical education courses at girls public schools "in the near future."
Currently, only boys have physical education and sporting clubs in Saudi public schools. The minister said he hopes to change that by introducing sports clubs in girls schools.
