Sri Lankan Tony Cassier Kuthdoos, 48, was driving to a restaurant to pick up his suhur meal at around 2.30 a.m. when he suffered the heart attack. He then lost control of his car and hit a signpost on Jarir Street near the Naft gas station, according to eyewitnesses.
“The driver lost his balance and the vehicle knocked against the post,” an onlooker said, adding that the driver was lying unconscious at the wheel.
Kuthdoos was rushed to the nearest hospital in an ambulance, but he died on the way. According to hospital sources, paramedics tried their best to save his life.
He had been working as a sales supervisor for food store chain BinZagr.
Kuthdoos had sent his family to Sri Lanka two weeks ago and he was to leave for Colombo on Tuesday evening to attend his sister’s wedding.
He is survived by his wife Izzath Zulficar Badurdeen and three children, Bin Kaif, Zumra and Abdul Rahman Salman. His family is due in Riyadh on Wednesday at 9 p.m.
The Sri Lankan Embassy is making preparations for the body to be buried in Riyadh in line with the wishes of Kuthdoos’ family.
