Healthlines: Your body needs you!

If you always want to keep a youthful figure, you can! To achieve this you must make exercise a way of life and practice every day, every week, every month of the year. I have been exercising every morning for 20 years and my figure and weight have stayed the same despite having three children. I am passionate about the benefits exercising every morning every day: It gives results. It is particularly effective in achieving greater mobility. Flexibility and balance that last a lifetime and are vital to long term good health and happiness.
It is true that everything worthwhile in life is worth working hard for, and surely it is worth a little hard work to achieve a super shapely body that works well: A body full of vitality that makes you feel happy to be alive.
In his autobiography, Nelson Mandela talks about exercising every morning in his cell for 45 minutes to keep himself fit and healthy and feeling free.  He says, ‘I have always believed that exercise is the key not only to physical health but to peace of mind.’
Exercise is the only way to keep your body young and now that we are living longer it is important to stay flexible and healthy and that is how you remain free and independent. If you follow my Mini-Morning Workout you will exercise every part of your body; this is very important as in daily life you do not always use all your muscles and then you notice that you can start to stiffen up as you age. If you do not exercise, as you grow older you will suffer all manner of aches and pains and start to shuffle about like some old creature. Taking exercise can help you remain tall and avoid aches and pains.
Exercise also helps you stay in touch with your body and maintain your balance.
Children are always practicing balance but as we grow older we stop practicing and we lose our sense of balance. That is why older people are more prone to falls.
I have exercises for everyone so that you can start at any level and they are the most natural things to do in the morning. If you notice, animals always get out of their baskets and stretch first thing. In the morning you may feel tired but after 10 minutes exercise I guarantee you will feel different; your mood changes as the endorphins work and lift your spirits so that you feel fit and confident for the day ahead.
 After pregnancy muscles firm and shape up quite quickly but start gently and only after your doctor’s advice if you have had a caesarean delivery.

If exercise is good for your body then it is also good for your face and helps the muscles stay high up on their moorings — much better than any expensive cream will.   As we grow older we smile less and use fewer facial expressions as we become less expressive than when we were children; and so muscles start to droop.  But the good news is that you can prevent this.

I am being asked constantly about this controversial diet as it seems a quick fix to so many who are eager to lose excess weight. But first you must accept that to lose weight, you need to eat less. The Atkins diet is not a healthy diet and you are risking your long-term good health. I do not recommend it as it is in opposition to my healthy eating principles of eating a balanced diet so that your body has all the nutrients it needs for good health and repair. If you lose weight by switching to a healthy diet, you can stay on it for life. When you follow a healthy diet you feel fresh, you have energy, you feel in control, and you maintain an ideal weight.
