Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he can't see any reason why Turkey can't establish an "unimpeded trade mechanism with Iran similar to the one with Europe." Erdogan, adressing a Turkish-Iranian business forum in Istanbul Thursday, says his country is planning to buy more natural gas from Iran to supply industrial zones and homes.
Trade between the two countries is currently worth about $10 billion. Turkey says trade with Iran has jumped 86 percent in the first seven months this year.
Iran's vice president Mohammad Reza Rahimi says they have been "laying the foundations of a very strong building with Turkey."
