Key Saudi-Egyptian meet due in Cairo

“The meeting will discuss various sectors of common interests to the two brotherly countries to further strengthen the bilateral ties,” Egyptian Ambassador Mahmoud Ouf told Arab News on Saturday. The envoy said that the discussion will be all-embracing and the topics of mutual interest will be discussed. “Both Egypt and Saudi Arabia enjoy a very distinguished status and huge potentials in the Arab, Muslim and international levels. This position has provided the two countries with key influential capabilities in their foreign relations,” Ouf said.
Ouf said that the Saudi-Egyptian Commission would explore the possibilities for the two sides increasing collaboration that draws its origins from history.
“The Saudi founder, the late King Abdulaziz Al-Saud, told his sons that the relationship between Egypt and Saudi Arabia stems from history and, therefore, of utmost importance,” the envoy said.
The envoy also said that there are some 1.5 million Egyptians performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia annually. There are also one million Egyptians working and residing in Saudi Arabia and who have contributed to the Kingdom’s development.
“Out of the one million Egyptians living in the Kingdom are 35,000 doctors,” said Nabil Bakr Omara, the press attache at the embassy.
Omara added that 500,000-6,000,000 Saudis are residing in Egypt permanently, adding that there are 300,000-400,000 Saudi tourists visiting Egypt yearly.
