In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, the Rector of KSU Abdullah Al-Othman thanked the king for his deep interest in the development of KAIN.
Al-Othman hoped that the KSU will be able to rise to the expectations of the king and generate high quality nanotechnology products and research activities that would lead to the progress of the Kingdom in particular and mankind in general.
The institute is linked to external laboratories at leading universities and research centers, such as the Max Planck Institute in Germany, the University of Illinois in the United States, Leeds University in Britain and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Saudi businessman Muhammad Al-Amoudi is funding the construction of the institute.
The KAIN has already registered seven patents in addition to applying for two more patents in silicon and 20 specialized research papers covering physics, chemistry, medicine and agriculture.
Research at KAIN will cover areas of particular interest to the Kingdom, such as seawater desalination, renewable energy and the treatment of diseases such as cancer and diabetes.
