It quoted Abdullah Al-Johani, a senior official at the SCTA, as saying the program means that people coming to perform pilgrimage can also visit the Kingdom's tourist sites. "Under the program, pilgrims will be allowed to go to places which they were not allowed visit before," Al-Johani said, adding that the program will give a boost the tourism sector.
"The Kingdom has a lot to offer to the tourists. We concentrated our efforts during the past six years to attract domestic and GCC tourists," he said.
He said the Kingdom hopes to raise the contribution of tourism from the current 6.5 percent of gross domestic product to 11 percent over the next two decades.
