Proceedings of Sunday's session was chaired by Shoura Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Asheikh.
On Saturday, King Abdullah invited Iraq's political parties for talks in Saudi Arabia after Haj in an attempt to break the political deadlock and help them form a unity government in the war-torn country.
The king invited Iraqi President Jalal Talabani as well as heads of all parties that took part in the recent parliament elections to seek solutions for all outstanding problems that stand in the way of forming a government in Baghdad.
The proposed talks, to be held under the auspices of the Arab League, will provide a platform for reconciliation among rival Iraqi factions and to restore peace and stability in the country, the Shoura said.
The council felt that the call came from the king because of his deep commitment to the Arab world and its causes and is another indication of his interest to maintain the dignity and solidarity of Arab countries.
The king has taken similar initiatives on issues pertaining to Palestine, Lebanon and Somalia. The members hope that the arrangement made by the king would provide the anticipated results toward peace, prosperity, unity and security of the region.
The house also requested President Talabani and other Iraqi leaders to accept the regent's call and participate in the proposed dialogue which would resolve several issues, including the sectarian violence in Iraq.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Organization of the Islamic Conference Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu described the call as a wise move to resolve the issues of Arab and Islamic nations.
“It showed the king's keenness to preserve the unity of Iraq and to support the Iraqi people to live in an atmosphere of peace and security,” he said.
