Muzzammil Hassan appeared Wednesday at a pretrial conference in Erie County Court in Buffalo, where he told the judge he’s been beaten by sheriff’s deputies at the county jail.
Hassan’s lawyer asked the judge to order jail videotapes preserved. The judge didn’t immediately rule.
A call to a sheriff’s department spokeswoman wasn’t immediately returned.
Aasiya Hassan was killed in 2009 inside the TV station she and her husband, who were both from Pakistan, established to promote cultural understanding. She had recently filed for divorce.
Hassan’s murder trial is scheduled to start Jan. 10.
