The body of Walter Percy Gardiner, a retired British Army colonel from Norfolk, will be buried on Thursday in Jordan in a special ceremony.
The royal court also announced a one-week mourning throughout the country for Gardiner, father of Princess Mona Al-Hussein, King Abdallah’s mother.
The princess was born in Britain in 1941 as Antoinette Gardiner and was married to late King Hussein, King Abdallah’s father, in 1961. They divorced in 1971.
King Abdallah has cut short a visit to Oman and Bahrain and returned to Amman to take part in funeral rites.
