The man, in his 40s, had confessed to police that they consumed heroin together and an overdose of the drug led to the victim’s death.
Shocked by the young man’s death, he covered the body with clothes, placed it inside a bag and then abandoned it near a garbage box in the local Al-Nuwaisher neighborhood, according to police sources.
Local residents notified police after the bag started emitting a foul smell. Forensics teams and officers reached the scene and collected evidence from the body, which was already decomposing.
After taking the body to a local hospital morgue, police started a probe into the case. The investigation coincided with the filing of a complaint by a Saudi woman living in Al-Nuzha district whose son had been missing since Eid Al-Adha. It emerged that the body belonged to her son.
The friend retraced his steps with police up to when he dumped the body.
He said his friend had lunch with his mother at their residence in the Al-Nuzha district on Eid.
The victim then went to the friend’s house and told him he had sold his mother’s gold chain for SR200. He had used the money to buy a packet of heroin, he said.
They then injected each other with drugs. When the man woke up, he found that he could not wake up his friend. He then made the decision to dump the body.
Officers will refer the case to the local court to register the man’s confession formally, according to police sources.
