Police said in a statement that the suspect was involved in a business transaction with a 37-year-old Saudi that turned out to be fraudulent.
“When the victim went to deposit the check in the bank, he was told that the check is bad," said police spokesman Col. Misfer Al-Juaid.
Later the victim also found out that all the documents submitted by the suspect were forged.
“The victim then contacted the authorities,” said the spokesman.
The suspect is currently held at a police station in north Jeddah pending investigations.
In another development, a 28-year-old Saudi national was arrested in Al-Nuzla neighborhood on suspicion of stealing an ATM card belonging to a 40-year-old Saudi schoolkeeper.
Police said the suspect is unemployed and that he managed to make multiple cash withdrawals from the victim’s bank account. He was able to transfer the amount to another bank account. Police is still investigating the case.
In other crime related news, two Saudi teenagers were arrested in Aziziyah district on suspicion of stealing a wood-cutting machine worth more than SR2,000 from two Bangladeshi workers.
Police said that the incident occurred late Thursday night when the two suspects who are students drove a 1981 suburban to where the victims lived and stole the machine.
“Security officers received a phone call from one of the victims at around four o’clock Friday morning about the incident. He provided the suspects' car description and its license plate number,” said the spokesman.
Al-Juaid added that the two suspects were eventually captured and were being held at a nearby police station.
