The three were held for taking the maid’s body to Asir Central Hospital. However, police said they had no clue whether there was any criminal motive behind the woman’s death.
The incident received wide media coverage as it took place in less than two months after the murder of an Indonesian maid in the province by her sponsor.
Col. Abdullah Al-Garni, spokesman of Asir police, said the maid was living in the Kingdom legally under a Saudi sponsor. The sponsor returned the woman to the recruitment office to find a replacement.
In a previous statement, Al-Garni said the maid died of natural causes.
“Preliminary investigations have shown that the maid’s death was natural and no criminal motives involved,” he said.
After examining the maid’s body, doctors at the hospital said they could not find any signs of physical or sexual abuse on the body, which was later transferred to the mortuary of Abha General Hospital.
The maid’s body was found after the murder of Kikim Komalasari, 34, by her sponsor last month. Komalasari’s murder has been widely publicized in local and Indonesian media. Later, Muaimin Askandar, Indonesian minister of manpower and transmigration, visited the Kingdom and met with his Saudi counterpart Adel Fakieh.
“The two sides have also agreed to provide insurance to cover Indonesian workers deployed in the Kingdom,” said Hendrar Pramutyo, a senior Indonesian diplomat entrusted with the task of citizens' protection.
Pramutyo said that Muhaimin also met with Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Salem, undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, and sought his support, especially for protecting Indonesian domestic helpers and prosecuting erring Saudi employers.
Meanwhile, an official source at the National Recruitment Committee said his organization was planning to recruit more maids from Nepal to meet the shortage following the suspension of recruitment from Indonesia.
