Avigdor Lieberman told Israel Radio on Monday that “there is no other way” because the Palestinians have turned down previous Israeli offers. He says a full peace deal remains impossible.
A government official said Sunday the plan would turn over up to 50 percent of the West Bank to the Palestinians. He spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan has not been finalized.
The Palestinians want the entire West Bank as part of their independent state. They reject the idea of interim borders, fearing they would become permanent.
Lieberman’s plan appears aimed at blunting international pressure on Israel.
