They said the withdrawal of security forces from their positions has given a free hand to looters and thieves, increasing their worries.
Hassan Ali Hassan, a Saudi who owns several properties in Cairo and the northern coastal areas, said he fears the disappearance of police and release of prisoners would harm his properties, especially those located along the main streets.
“I am in continuous contact with friends in Egypt to know the situation of my properties,” he said.
Businessman Khaled Al-Harbi said his flat, which is located closed to Azbakiya police station, was damaged when protesters set fire to the police station. He bought the building 10 years ago.
Adnan Badeeb, a Saudi media person, said he is worried about his flats on Arab League Street. “Some people might exploit the absence of building owners to break into the flats and steal valuables … Such a scenario is possible in the absence of policemen,” he added.
Emad Wazna, a Saudi real estate businessman, said he is afraid the security situation in Egypt might worsen following the collapse of security. He added that groups of youths who have taken to protect buildings and properties from thieves and thugs would not be enough.
“These youths provide protection during the night but the thefts may take place in the day during their absence,” said Wazna.
There are several buildings owned by Saudis and other Arabs along Arab League Street, Faisal Street and Masr Jadida (New Egypt), and other posh areas of Cairo.
Saud Allaheibi from Makkah, who owns several building in Egypt, expressed hope that things would soon return to normal. “If the present insecure condition continues, I am afraid businessmen will incur heavy losses,” he added.
