Miller, a former Indiana Pacers star, was courtside at the TD Garden working on the TNT television broadcast. Allen walked over to him during the next break, and then bumped fists with Lakers star Kobe Bryant.
Allen got to the record a little faster than Miller, needing 6,430 shots to reach the record. Miller took 6,486 shots from 3-point range in his 18-year career with the Indiana Pacers.
Ray Allen’s record-setting night, however, was spoiled by the Lakers' 92-86 victory, with Bryant scoring 20 of his 23 points in the second half.
Bryant put Allen on the bench in foul trouble during his big second half that rallied Los Angeles from an early 15-point deficit.
Pau Gasol added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who split the regular season series with their biggest rivals and got a sorely needed victory against one of the league’s top teams.
