Longtime Indian resident dies

Rajan, marketing manager of Saudi Catering and Contracting Company, died around 2 p.m. when he was resting at home. Rajan, 66, worked for one of the prestigious groups in India owned by B.K. Birla in Bombay. He also worked in India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting when Indira Gandhi was its minister.
In a condolence message from India, Deputy External Affairs Minister E. Ahamed said he was greatly shocked over the death of Rajan. "He was my best friend and a great social worker who dedicated his life for the cause of the Indian community," the deputy minister said.
"Rajan was an active member of our community, totally committed to the welfare of the Indian community in the Kingdom," said Indian Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad.
Vinod Menon, corporate journalist based in the capital, said: "Rajan was a friendly person who was helpful to anybody irrespective of nationalities."
He is survived by his wife Sathi and two married daughters.
Arrangements are being made by his family for the body to be taken to his hometown for burial in Kannur, Kerala.
